Depositional Features
- When looking at depositional features it is best to start with the type of beach.
- It is important to remember that place and scale are key to the types of depositional features found.
- A 'swash aligned' beach brings in waves parallel to the shore, building up large beaches. They are also associated with constructive waves, known for depositing material rather than eroding the cliffs.
- 'Swash Aligned' beaches are associated with large beach profiles, with dunes, berms and drainage features.
- 'Drift aligned' beaches bring waves to the coast at an angle and therefore tend to transport sediment down the coast.
- 'Drift aligned' beaches are associated with narrow beach profiles, spits, bars and tombolos.
